I think this is a great metaphor for the unequal structure in which we live today. Often times discourse of ‘equal justice’ uses the constitution to justify the ways in which everyone ‘is created equal’ and how social justice only exists to throw off the balance the constitution has apparently already provided. The problem with the constitution is that often time and definitely in this case, the statement, “all men are created equal” doesn’t manifest perfectly in a world where the structure is built upon oppression.
